The SEWIT (Support the extension of water supply in small towns) project is supporting the Water authority (NPPLP) and the Department of Public works and Transport (DPWT) in Luang Prabang province to extend access to drinking water in large rural villages
In an initial phase, the project intends to develop a water service in the Phonexay district to meet growing demand. With regards infrastructure, the project plans to construct a storage reservoir and install pipes. The work will be conducted by the water authority and a results-based investment grants mechanism was put in place.
GRET is supporting the NPPLP to promote the service and to ensure access to water through individual connections in communities supplied through the use of social marketing tools. The project is also supporting the DPWT with its strategy to extend water supply in the Province through studies on the feasibility of new sites from which future projects will be defined.
