ProDIP is a 4-year project that aims to contribute to improvement of living and working conditions of people detained and prison staff in Madagascar. The project also intends to favour the reintegration of detainees in penal camps.
ProDIP covers the following subject areas: water, hygiene and sanitation, diet, reintegration of detainees and strengthening of institutional capacities at local and central level. It is being conducted in five regions in Madagascar: Vatovavy, Fitovinany, Boeny, Diana, and Analamanga.
This project is part of the Fanarenana programme to support the prison sector. It is being implemented by a consortium of 4 NGOs – Agrisud international, Grandir Dignement, Sentinelles, and GRET – the project coordinator. The contracting authority is the Ministry of Justice, and the project is funded by Agence française de développement.
Fair access to food, water, hygiene and sanitation will be sustainably improved for all detainees. In addition, the capacities of public institutions will be strengthened, as will Interministerial dialogue at local and central level. Lastly, a viable development model will be defined so that penal camps can have real capacity to contribute to detainees’ diets and reintegration.
