In Tunisia, GRET is contributing to the national climate adaptation plan for food security

Actualité

From July 2019 to December 2021, together with Suez Consulting and Acterra, GRET conducted a study to support preparation of Tunisia’s National Adaptation Plan for food security.

Through the Adapt’action Facility launched in 2017, Agence française de développement (AFD) provided support to the Tunisian government – in particular the Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulic resources and Fisheries – in order to work alongside farmers on the definition and adoption of low-carbon development trajectories that are resilient to climate change. The study focuses on analysing climate vulnerability and on the nature and extent of adaptation actions in food and agrifood systems.

The study, conducted at national level, highlights the issues envisaged in the five key food production areas: cereals (durum wheat, soft wheat and barley), olive growing (olive oil), rangelands (sheep meat and goatmeat), fishing (solely sea fishing – excluding freshwater fishing and fish farming) and water (agricultural and other uses).
