GRET actively participated in the pre-capitalisation workshop organised by the programme to support civil society initiatives (PAISC), which was held on 27 and 28 June in the West African Regional Center (WARC) in Dakar, Senegal.
In order to strengthen the participation of civil society organisations in sectoral dialogue and in the demand for transparency on management of public resources, PAISC and the European Union funded several projects, including four initiatives in which GRET is involved:
- the project to strengthen citizen participation and solidarity for a healthy environment in the suburbs of Dakar (Sunu Gox) (in French) in partnership with Y’en a marre;
- the PACT project, which aims to increase citizen control of hydraulics and sanitation for transparency, in partnership with Forum civil;
- the Sense project, to collectively monitor drinking water services in the North, co-led with Gaston Berger University;
- and lastly, the Pradalis project (in French), to develop sanitation in intermediary localities, managed by pS-Eau.
The objective of the workshop was to establish dialogue between these projects and public authorities in the water and sanitation sector, in order to strengthen accountability of public policies. The indepth, animated discussions held at the workshop will be continued throughout the PAISC capitalisation process, which will take place in 2018-2019.
