The GRET website gets a makeover!

Since 2003, GRET has been ensuring the sustainability and durability of its interventions involving communities in the development process in Burkina Faso. It collaborates with a range of diverse stakeholders to provide joint multi-sectoral responses to nutrition and food security. GRET also contributes to addressing development challenges related to agriculture, and works to strengthen the resilience of public services for the provision of drinking water, and access to basic sanitation and hygiene services. In a security crisis context, GRET and its partners are developing a “conflict-sensitive” approach based on understanding of local dynamics, in order to contribute to preventing and regulating local conflicts.

GRET has been active in Cambodia since 1988 and works in four areas: agriculture; drinking water, sanitation and waste; natural resource management and energy; health and nutrition and microfinance.

Active in Congo since 2002, GRET has developed a solid network of partners that enable it to develop actions around the areas of sanitation and solid waste management, training and professional integration of young people, strengthening and supporting civil society and resilient cities.

GRET’s actions have led to various achievements such as the establishment of a waste management service in Dolisie, the structuring of a waste pre-collection chain in Brazzaville, and the structuring and strengthening of networks of professional organizations, etc.

GRET has been present in Guinea since 1995 and works in collaboration with local authorities and civil society organizations, particularly on agricultural and food issues.

It promotes synergies of action between stakeholders, local authorities and civil society, will thus increase the impact of projects for the benefit of the inhabitants, and contributes to the professionalization of local actor∙rice∙s, facilitating more adapted and sustainable responses to the challenges of tomorrow in Guinea.

GRET has been present in Haiti since 1994, working in the most precarious neighbourhoods of the capital and other urban and rural regions, covering a range of areas such as: health and nutrition; agriculture; natural resource management; local essential services; water and sanitation; cities and housing.

Together with Haitian civil society stakeholders and local authorities, GRET Haiti conducts projects focusing on development, and professional and economic integration of young people. GRET’s team in Haiti takes a pragmatic approach to development based on social facilitation, which underpins all its actions.

In Laos, GRET is an active key player in the development sector. With almost two decades of experience in the country, GRET contributes its technical expertise to many sectors in Laos, including agriculture, rural development, land governance, natural resource management, and access to essential local services (water, sanitation and solid waste management). It implements innovative approaches with sustainability at the core of its practices. GRET plays a central role in engaging with development partners and the Lao government.

Active in Madagascar since 1988, GRET contributes to development policies and promotes access to essential services through its multidisciplinary network of expertise and its local presence. With a participatory and innovative approach, GRET identifies levers that contribute to sustainable solutions to inequalities, such as the production and distribution of complementary foods and training in good nutrition practices.

GRET acts by involving public and private actors and civil society. The sustainability of its projects is systematically at the heart of its approach, for example by encouraging the emergence of new actors such as the Centre Technique Agro-écologique du Sud (CTAS) or the social enterprise Nutri’zaza.

GRET has been working in Mali since 1990. It implements projects in the areas of training and professional integration, as well as local production and marketing of nutritional foods to prevent maternal and infant malnutrition.

GRET has been working in Mauritania since 1991 and encourages local initiatives and know-how in a participatory approach to meet the essential needs of the population, in line with public policies.

GRET provides appropriate and sustainable responses by creating, for example, youth reception and support centers to promote training and professional integration. It encourages a market-based approach, in particular by setting up water purification plants and promoting sanimarkets. Finally, it contributes to access to energy in rural areas through the development of multifunctional solar platforms and the production of an innovative alternative fuel.

GRET is present in Myanmar since 1995, where it provides innovative responses to reduce the vulnerability of the population.

GRET has been working in Niger since 2006 to fight food and nutritional insecurity, in a context of recurring crises that impact the living conditions of the population.

Since 2009, GRET has been supporting a dozen child meal production units where more than 100 women work. It specializes in improving malnutrition prevention strategies by local actors, through the development of awareness-raising tools, training and action research. GRET is a pioneer in Niger in linking emergency and development interventions on malnutrition issues.

GRET has been present in Senegal since 1985. Over this period, it has established strong partnerships to develop its actions in the country. It provides innovative, sustainable solutions for better essential services; inclusive, integrated management of natural resources; support for agricultural value chains; and agroecological transition. GRET also works to respond to urban planning challenges, promote youth employment and integration, and foster active citizen participation.

GRET has been working in Togo since 2019 and its actions are in line with the National Development Plan. Its teams support municipalities in the management of their local public services (waste and sanitation), mobilize local stakeholders in the fight against climate change, and place citizens at the heart of urban construction through the participatory development of public spaces. At the national level, GRET supports the implementation of the integrated water resources management policy, as well as the organization of the drinking water access sector.

In Vietnam, GRET is a long-standing development partner in the field. With deep-rooted expertise in agriculture, nutrition, and microfinance, GRET has been expanding its work to agroecology and natural resource management. In partnership with both public and private institutions, impact-oriented projects are currently being implemented by our dedicated local team for target groups that need them most.

GRET is committed to maintaining its support for vulnerable communities such as migrant workers and ethnic minority women, in order to address challenges that result from rapid economic and demographic growth in the country. Networking is also a focus, for example with participation in regional initiatives such as agroecology-safe food systems and land governance in South-East Asia.
