GRET publishes its 2017 annual report

Actualité

GRET’s general assembly took place on 29 and 30 August last. This was an opportunity to take a look back at 2017, which is retraced in the annual report for the year. The main information published in the report is summarized below.

Key GRET figures in 2017:

  • 739 professionals of more than twenty different nationalities;
  • a budget of 31.7 million euros;
  • 191 interventions, including 115 field projects, 65 studies, research missions and capitalisations, and 11 facilitation and training activities;
  • actions in partnership with 21 scientific institutions, 196 operational partners and 165 financial partners.

The organisation is still very focused on its capitalization activities. The publication of the Mémento de l’assainissement (Sanitation Handbook, in French), the result of four years of work, was one of the key events of the year. Co-published by GRET and Quæ, cooordinated by Julien Gabert, this comprehensive, exhaustive book aims to provide methods and tools to design, implement and manage sanitation services in developing countries. The Handbook is available in bookshops and in electronic format, together with a toolkit that can be downloaded free of charge (in French).

The launch of the Thitsar Ooyin microfinance company in Myanmar (in French) was also a major event in 2017. The unification of two microfinance institutions created by GRET – one in Chin State in 1995 and one in the Dry Zone in 2014 – gave rise at the end of 2017 to Thitsar Ooyin, an autonomous company governed by local law, proposing loans adapted to suit the situations of poor rural populations in Myanmar.
