GRET’s participation in the Global Social Economy Forum in Dakar

From 1 to 6 May 2023, Dakar, the capital of Senegal, will welcome the sixth edition of the Global social economy forum. The central theme of this year’s event, which is being held in Africa for the first time is “Transitioning from informal economies to collective and sustainable economies for our territories”.

The Dakar Forum will focus on two main objectives. Firstly, a political objective, as the Forum will bring together elected representatives and leaders from across the world, international experts, and development agencies to promote this new economy underpinned by respect for humans and the environment. The second objective focuses on sharing of experiences and expertise, which will enable extension of successful innovations led by local governments and stakeholders in the social and solidarity economy.

For six days, numerous activities will take place throughout a sequence of three events: the Jeun’ESS pre-forum (1 and 2 May), the Women & SSE pre-forum (3 May), and the main forum (4 to 6 May).

GRET will be present at the Jeun’ESS pre-forum, during which it will facilitate a stand highlighting its social and solidarity economy initiatives. It will also facilitate a self-managed session as part of the main forum. The session will focus on this central question: “How to ensure the sustainability and favour the economic inclusion of social and solidarity businesses generated by development projects? Stakeholders, financing and integration?”.

Come join us at the Esplanade in front of the Grand National Theatre of Dakar to discover our social and solidarity initiatives and discuss them with us.
