A new project to promote employment in Senegal

Actualité

The project supporting young to access employment in the South of Senegal (AjeSud), launched in January 2018, was the subject of a discussion workshop in Dakar on 27 February last. Led by GRET, in partnership with Belgian NGO ADG and the Senegal vocational and technical training fund (3FPT) (in French only), this three-year project funded by the European Union (EU) aims to provide appropriate support systems to young independent workers and very small and medium businesses in the regions of Ziguinchor, Sédhiou, Kolda, Kédougou and Tambacounda.

The AjeSud project is part of the broader Tekki Fii (Developing employment in Senegal) (in French only) EU programme, the objectives of which are to facilitate access of young people to vocational training to strengthen the fabric of local businesses.

The workshop, which took place at the end of February, brought together more than 25 participants from the stakeholders of the Tekki Fii programme: EU, Agence française de développement, LuxDev, Agency for the development and framework of small and medium businesses (ADEPME) (in French only), the ministry of Vocational training, Apprenticeship and Artisan businesses (in French only), the National office of vocational training (ONFP) (in French only), Positive Planet and Enda Graf Sahel (in French only). The latter discussed possible synergies and collaborations between the various projects and operators, and the conditions necessary for the success of the AjeSud project.
