Improving waste management: Syctom and GRET sign a framework agreement

projet gestion des déchets Togo

On 23 April 2024, at the signature of a multi-annual international cooperation framework agreement, representatives from Syctom[1] met with GRET’s teams for a morning of discussions.

Syctom – a public waste management body in the Île-de-France region in France – and GRET have been working together for almost ten years on numerous projects focusing on the collection and treatment of household waste in Cambodia, Cameroon, Madagascar, Republic of Congo, Togo, and Vietnam.

The two organisations have a common vision that promotes the improvement of inhabitants’ sanitary and social conditions, and the fight against the detrimental effects of the different sorts of waste-related pollution. They also share the conviction that it is necessary to work over the long term to obtain lasting results and set up quality services that are in line with populations’ needs. For GRET, the signature of this framework agreement with Syctom is a real guarantee of efficiency for the conduct of sustainable operations.

In addition to the possibility of rolling out sustainable waste management projects or innovative projects – fighting against plastic pollution on coastlines or electric and electronic equipment waste management -, this agreement will enable GRET to share the knowledge generated by its longstanding experience in the field. It plans notably to produce a methodological and practical guide on waste management and the circular economy.
