Livelier and more comprehensive, the GRET nutrition programme website is evolving in order to better promote Nutridev, an innovative method to fight against child malnutrition.
This new version of the Nutridev website was put on line to coincide with the launch of three major projects to fight against malnutrition in Madagascar and Niger, funded by the European Union*. On nutridev.org, you will find comprehensive news on the Nutridev programme and details of projects underway, both in France and internationally. The “Method” section features solutions developed locally, as well as key documents on GRET’s interventions. The website is also now bilingual, available in both French and English.
Nutridev in the spotlight
Every year, malnutrition is directly or indirectly responsible for the death of three million children worldwide. It is particularly devastating during the first 1,000 days of a child’s life and leads to irreversible damage over the long term: stunting, morbidity, and physical and mental handicaps. It is the result of inappropriate feeding and diseases.
In light of this, NGO GRET and nutritionists at the Nutripass joint research unit in the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) created the Nutridev programme in 1994 to fight against child malnutrition, particularly in its least visible form: chronic malnutrition. Gradually, they designed an innovative method to prevent malnutrition, with children under the age of two being the priority target.
The programme’s actions today focus on six key areas:
“This is the basis on which we roll out projects in various countries, adapting actions to suit contexts and seeking innovative solutions locally”, explains Mirrdyn Denizeau, head of the Nutridev programme with GRET.
Twenty years later, the programme is active in approximately ten developing countries, benefitting almost 600,000 people.
