9th IASC Conference on the Commons

GRET is pleased to participate in the 9th biennial conference of the International Association for the Study of the Commons (IASC). Co-founded by Elinor Ostrom, the IASC is the leading association dedicated to the study of the commons and contributes to the debate on alternative development approaches. This year’s edition will focus on “The Commons We Want: Between Historical Legacies and Future Collective Actions”, and will be held from 19 to 24 June 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The session will be co-chaired by GRET, CIRAD and AFD. It will be an opportunity to recognise the central role of users and citizens in the definition and implementation of territorial development approaches. The three institutions’ presentations will enable an analysis of the diversity of visions and practices regarding the commons, as well as the possible synergies between them. GRET will present the approach taken and progress made by its 2019-2025research-action programme on the commons. The latter is being rolled out in fifteen action situations.
This is an exciting opportunity to discuss the future of the commons in the development sphere. To learn more, visit the event website.
