Created in 2007, Coalition Eau is a collective of 30 French NGOs committed to promoting sustainable access to drinking water and sanitation for all, while preserving water resources.
NGOs in the sector, observing a lack of political will to reach universal sustainable access to drinking water and sanitation, wanted to become structured and conduct common advocacy actions so that deciders would rise to the challenges and respect commitments given (right to water, Sustainable development goals, Climate agreement, etc.). Apart from its advocacy activities, Coalition Eau’s missions consist of representing French NGOs in the sector, developing links with civil society networks in France and internationally, providing expertise, training its members and partners and, lastly, informing public opinion.
An informal collective that does not have its own association status, Coalition Eau is housed by a leading NGO member ensuring administrative, organisational and financial aspects. Since 1st January 2019, GRET, a founding member, has been housing the collective, following on from Eau Vive, which fulfilled this role for 11 years. The Coalition Eau secretariat is made up of two employees. Its office is now located at GRET headquarters, within the Drinking water, sanitation and waste management team.
